Scratch Day

Today was the second time I worked with Scratch.  The first time was a very quick overview of Scratch jr. with Sandra McAuley.  Today we worked with Scratch on the computer and I had a ball creating my own little story.  I feel like I will need a lot more time to explore and create in the program before I am comfortable teaching this to my students.  I did learn many new coding directions that I could give my avatar.  I even ventured into the extension that allows you to create music.  This was very intuitive and I felt that I could really create an elaborate piece of music using the program.  The activity we did today would be a great literacy/ADST project for my class.  Click the link below to see my first Scratch creation!

My wheels are definitely turning with regards to Scratch and how I can be using this with students.  I am looking forward to doing more research and thinking about how I can create literacy/ADST projects.

We did some coding with Lego We Do as well today.  I like that there is an option to use Lego software or Scratch with the Lego We Do.  I think I was more comfortable with Scratch but I can see how the Lego software would be great for younger students.  I also like all of the lesson plans and ideas that are provided in the Lego We Do app.  I am looking forward to delving deeper into this tool for coding.
