Educators implement effective planning, instruction, assessment and reporting practices to create respectful, inclusive environments for student learning and development.
I had the pleasure of collaborating with Gordon Cavers on a curriculum map assignment for Language arts. We planned a great unit on reading for information that had grade 5 and 6 students inquiring about climate change and the affects they could have on their environment. We synthesized our knowledge of current assessment practices, thoughtful planning and reading strategies to come up with the framework for a hopefully engaging unit on climate change. The experience of collaborating on this kind of planning was positive and reinforced the idea that we should not be creating curriculum alone in our careers. We are stronger as teachers if we are sharing our ideas about our practice.
