Educators engage in professional learning.

This past semester I had the pleasure of attending the SD57 Indigenous Day of Learning.  This was such an inspirational day as well as a day of amazing storytelling.    I had the opportunity to listen to one of the most powerful speakers I have ever heard, Waneek Horn-Miller.  Her story was so motivating and I still keep with me the idea that we must fight for all human rights, especially the rights of those who are marginalized in society.  Those may be the people that lose their rights first but if we don’t fight to defend those rights, what is to stop the powers that be from taking away all human rights.

I also had the privilege of learning from Edith Frederick, a Lheidli Dakelh speaker.  She guided us through an amazing YouTube resource that she has compiled to help bring the Dakelh language into the classroom.

This day of learning was so uplifting.  I cherish the moments we get to spend as educators, learning about the world around us and collaborating on how to make our classrooms and practice better.
